Easter HAF

Join us at Aspex this Easter for an April Fools Day carnival inspired by the jovial, silly and playful characters featured in Melanie Jackson’s Temperament Index.

Get ready to dance, let loose and have fun as we celebrate the gift of humour, joy, silliness and fun. The day will feature dance workshops and performances from Funk Format as well as a puppet show and a ceramics painting workshop.

Session Breakdown

Each session will last an hour on rotation so all participants have an opportunity to take part in all three activities.

Funk Format Dance

Funk Format is a professional dance and arts organisation, based in the beautiful Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire UK. Their goal is to inspire and help people realise their sense of purpose, so that they reach their full potential and live their happiest life.

Painting Ceramic blanks with artist Lucy Mayes

Led by artist Lucy Mayes, participants will create pigmented ‘slip paints’ that will be painted onto white ceramic blanks and fired. The pigments used will be non toxic sustainable colours. Participants can follow some simple stencils or they can paint their own design, and will have something to take home with them at the end of the day.

Putting on a show with Isis

Led by Aspex Creative Engagement Coordinator Isis Selmakaitis, participants will create their own sets, props, designs and characters to put on their own show.

Free spaces are available for children and young people eligible for free school meals, as part of the government’s expanded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. For those not eligible, the cost to attend is £8 per child. Each booking includes lunch.

HAF is suitable for families with children aged 5–16. All Children must be accompanied by an adult. Under 10’s must attend with someone over the age of 18.

Please note, participants are advised to wear comfortable and weather-suitable shoes as the dance workshop will take place outside.
