Family Saturdays: 7 Days, 7 Stories

7 Days, 7 Stories a series of Family Saturdays workshops exploring language, delivered as part of Portsmouth Creates In Our Words programme.

Led by visual artist and researcher Maria Amidu, alongside facilitators Isis and Michelle,  participants will delve into the themes of colour, culture, memory, and voice, using a variety of imaginative activities. From illustrating lullabies and crafting characters from folklore to learning papercraft techniques and uncovering the meanings behind colour names and symbols, this is an opportunity to get creative together while discovering new ways to express yourself.

Dates

21 June, 11am-1pm – Illustrated lullabies with Isis

28 June, 11am-1pm – Colours, words and meanings with Isis

5 July, 11am-1pm – Papercraft and poetry with Michelle

12 July, 11am-1pm – Secrets word collage workshop 1 with Maria

19 July, 11am-1pm – Secrets word collage workshop 2 with Maria

2 August, 11am-1pm – Brazilian folklore characters with Isis

9 August, 11am-1pm  – Folklore as cultural memory and identity with Michelle

 

How to attend

No booking is required and you can drop in and out of the session.

Please note, there is a total capacity of 30 people at any one time. All are welcome to wait in our cafe or explore our exhibitions if a queue develops.

The suggested donation for Family Saturdays is £3 per participant. You can make a donation at the venue or by donating online here. All donations will help us continue to deliver access to art.

Accessibility

Family Saturdays takes place in the Learning Space on the ground floor and has step free access. The session may become noisy at times due to the nature of the workshops.
