Steve Moberly's work in 'EMERGENCY' 2015
Steve Moberly was born in 1972 in Keynsham near Bristol, and now lives and works in Bournemouth.
Recent highlights of career include: exhibiting in the ‘John Moores Painting Prize’ (2016); shortlisted for ‘Beers contemporary Visions VII’ (2017); winning the Best Visual Arts Event at the ‘Bournemouth Emerging Arts Fringe’ 2015 for his solo show ‘Insider Planting’.
Moberly was selected to take part in ‘Platform’, an annual showcase of graduate work from across the South Coast. The artist said: “The ‘Platform’ selection, along with the ‘Platform’ alumni event has been a huge boost”.
Following this, he took part in ‘EMERGENCY’, our international open submission competition in 2016, which Moberly described as “a great event to be part of”.
We asked the artist what a studio meant to him and his work. He said: “It is an essential separation from day-to-day distractions that permits and facilitates an acute focus on making”, recalling a residency he completed at the Bridport Arts Centre which triggered a new creative direction.
