Join Aspex on Saturday 11 June to view their newly renovated space!
Over the last two months the gallery’s interior has been completely reconfigured, resulting in the development of their Learning Space, Artist’s Studio and the relocation of their café-servery.
Aspex’s café partners Lily & Lime LD will also return to the gallery, providing locally sourced baked goods, refreshments and light lunches.
Saturday 11 June also marks the official start of Aspex’s new artist-in-residence, Alison Carlier.
Carlier was chosen to undertaken the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award (ARMA) Artist Residency earlier this year.
"The biggest difference from my previous work is that this work is site specific. For me, the site is inseparable from the work. In terms of working in Portsmouth, it has a strong military identity, which is new to me, so comes with its own language and concepts; something I'm often keen to address in my work."
Over ten weeks she will carry out education and participatory work alongside local youth, family and schools.
On the same Saturday, Carlier will also be running ‘Family Saturdays’, a new initiative offering free artistic drop-in workshops to the public. These will continue every Saturday, from 11am.
