We are encouraging people to create and share artwork with us online in support of Portsmouth’s refugee and asylum seeker community.
We are part of this year’s the People’s Projects with Big Lottery Fund and ITV. We are seeking support from the public for Welcome, a weekly arts project for members of the City’s refugee and asylum seeker community.
The workshops will help individuals develop new skills through art, English language capability, as well as confidence and self-esteem, whilst enabling them to become part of the wider local community.
Artworks should be yellow, or inspired by the open them of Welcome. Artworks can be shared online using the hashtag #RefugeesWelcome and by tagging in: @aspexportsmouth.
All artworks shared online will be made publicly viewable at the Gallery, presented on a digital screen. All artworks will be credited.
We are also encouraging artists to leave artworks across the City for the people of Portsmouth to find. Already, photographers Five Architects and knitting fanatics 60 Million Trebles have joined the cause. You can download a template for an A5 tag to accompany your artwork by clicking here.
On Thursday 19 April, we will showcase their project, Welcome on ITV Meridian West at 18.00hrs. Voting opens at 09.00hrs on Monday 16 April at: www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk. A single vote can change a life.
