Community rallies to #SaveFamilySaturdays

Over £7,000 has been raised to support Family Saturdays - our free and inclusive art workshop for families and children.

Since being founded in 2016, Family Saturdays has encouraged over 3,000 children to explore their creativity. The free sessions are an opportunity for children to develop essential and transferable skills, whilst spending quality time with their parents/guardians.

However with funding due to come an end this year, the gallery called on public support to continue running this important programme.

Aspex would like to thank all of the individuals and businesses who supported the project, enabling it to continue running. All donations made were also match-funded through Arts Council England’s Catalyst: Evolve scheme.

Joanne Bushnell, Director of Aspex, said:

“The level of support for Family Saturdays has been phenomenal.  We’ve had so many fantastic comments from people who have donated to the campaign. It’s really heartening to hear that our work at Aspex makes a real difference to people and is valued in our community and beyond.”

One of the many donations was made on behalf of Southern Co-op's retail store in The Hard, Portsmouth.

Chris Burridge, Store Manager, said:

"The majority of this area is shops and businesses so to have an opportunity like this on our doorstep is really special. They have already helped thousands of children to learn through art. It is a very different way of supporting children and young people so we really want to help keep it going. We hope our donation will make a difference."
