Platform Graduate Award Alumni Residency | Jasmine O’Hare
Aspex and the Contemporary Visual Arts Network South East (CVANSE) are delighted to announce artist Jasmine O’Hare has been selected for a Platform Graduate Award Alumni Residency.
Jasmine uses cultural artefacts found online, and re-contextualises them through using a combination of pre-existing modes of presentation, often drawing on her love of video games, tabletop games, and internet communities. This process allows hidden information or new meanings to emerge.
The artist was initially selected by Aspex for the 2015 Platform Graduate Award exhibition after studying BA (Hons) Fine Art at Arts University Bournemouth.
“I’ve been drawing, writing and taking photographs as a way of collecting ideas and this residency will provide the time and space I need to collate and translate these into new works. I’ve recently been interested in drawing as a way of collaging, layering and combining fragments to make new meanings and to combine this with stop motion animation.”
The Platform Graduate Award is an initiative to support emerging graduate artistic talent to further their practice following graduation. Established in 2012, the award includes a bursary and mentoring, and is awarded to an outstanding graduate from one of sixteen participating regional higher education partners.
This year’s residency and exhibition form part of Aspex’s programme of exhibitions, events and workshops focussed upon the importance of arts education and celebrating emerging creative talent.
