Every Saturday the gallery hosts a free drop-in workshop for all the family!
Each of these unique workshops take place in our Learning Space, led by local artists Megan Humphries and Jordan Baines. Every week is different, responding to our diverse exhibitions programme.
Family Saturdays takes place from 11.00 - 13.00hrs every week and is suitable for all ages. No prior booking is required.

About our workshop leaders
|Jordan is a local artist and Print Technician for the University of Portsmouth. Jordan joined the gallery's New Educator programme in 2016, learning about gallery education and creativity.||
Megan is a Southsea-based participatory artist. Megan became our Gallery Apprentice in 2016 (to 2017), leading on our family arts workshops, prior to studying child development at the University of Portsmouth.

|7 October, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Megan Humphries||The gallery's newest exhibition, Making Space: Celebrating 10 Years of Excellence in Craft, showcases the work of talented local designer/makers. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and respond to the show.|
|14 October, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Megan Humphries||In this session participants will be making art using balloons, responding to the work of George Marguet-Pew, as part of the Platform Graduate Award 2017.|

|28 October, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Megan Humphries||Halloween Special: Mixing, squeezing, stirring. This is a workshop perfect for all witches and wizards. Participants will be making their own messy potions.|
|4 November, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Jordan Baines||BOOM! BAM! WHIZZ! Fireworks season is finally here and we will be looking at how to recreate those iconic colours, noises and shapes that light up the November night sky.|
|11 November, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Megan Humphries||Slippery or fluffly, soft or lumpy... this session is all about texture! Participants will be exploring Aspex to see what different textures they can find, before constructing their own 3D sculptures inspired by what the have discovered.|
|18 November, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Jordan Baines||Have you ever wondered what lurks in the sea surrounding Portsmouth? Join artist Jordan Baines for a workshop inspired by the sea creatures of myths and legends, from the mighty Kraken to serene mermaids.This event forms part of Portsmouth DarkFest, a city-wide festival celebrating local creativity and all things scary and spooky.|

Festive Family Fun Day: A festive special of 'Family Saturdays' with free creative activities provided by regular workshop leaders, Aspex staff and some very special local guests. More details to be announced soon.
|16 December, 11.00 - 13.00hrs||Jordan Baines||Inspired by designer/maker Katherine Green (currently exhbiting as part of Making Space: 10 Years of Excellence in Craft) participants will create hand dyed textiles. Using dye packs, spray bottles and simple geometric stencils, participants will create their own scarfs - a perfect gift for Christmas!|
