Connect

This exhibition invites you to explore how we connect to space and to each other through the lens of visual arts, using diverse artistic forms to reimagine our sense of place and belonging. By weaving together themes of connection between places, bodies, and communities, this exhibit draws on a range of media—including textiles, illustration, photography, fashion, sculpture, digital art, and collage.

The featured works focus on sustainability and our perceptions to spaces and people with special emphasis on architecture, craftsmanship, and safety. The safety in feeling at home and questioning ideas of home and how various communities interlink is a unifying presence that subtly links each piece, underscoring the hidden threads that connect us all.

Developed in partnership with the University of Portsmouth, Connect is a week-long programme offering training, work experience, and creative workshops to help students studying subjects within the creative and cultural industries find their place and sense of belonging within the city of Portsmouth. This exhibition is a culmination of the programme that centred on broadening connections within the artistic community in Portsmouth.
