Greetings From 2126: The Creepy Futures Auction

We’ve imagined Portsmouth in 2126, but what happens when the future has to return to the present?

Join us as we close Aspex Portsmouth’s summer COMMUNAL programme with a playful speculative auction showcasing an extraordinary collection of imagined future artefacts created through the Greetings From Creepy Futures project.

Part exhibition, part performance and part thought experiment, this unique event invites you to explore strange technologies that might one day populate Portsmouth, and perhaps even take one home.

Featuring work developed through the Greetings From Creepy Futures: Wish you were(n’t) here workshops, the auction asks us to consider what we value, what we’re willing to sacrifice, and how the technologies we create shape the lives we lead. Wander through the collection, discover the stories behind each object and decide whether these speculative inventions belong in your future.

About the Facilitator

Dr Argenis Ramirez Gomez is a Senior Lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Portsmouth’s School of Film, Media and Creative Technologies. His work explores how emerging technologies may shape the ways we live, interact and experience the world. Through speculative, playful and thought-provoking design, his Greetings From Creepy Futures project encourages people to reflect on the ethics, possibilities and unintended consequences of future technologies. The project is supported by the British Academy and the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries.

This event is part of COMMUNAL, Aspex’s seasonal programme supporting Portsmouth’s communities through creativity, collaboration and shared experiences.
